What is Public Lewdness in Texas?
Sexually motivated crimes are a serious matter in the state of Texas. Whether an individual is accused of child pornography, sexual assault, or indecent exposure, any crime can result in hefty fines and imprisonment.
Texas Penal Code 21.07 lists public lewdness as a severe sexual offense. The statute states that an individual can be charged with public lewdness if he or she engages in any of the following acts in either a public place or a non-public place:
- Act of sexual contact;
- Act of sexual intercourse;
- Act of deviate sexual intercourse;
According to the statute, the act must be committed in a reckless manner with the intention of alarming or offending another person. A public lewdness offense will result in a class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and up to $4,000 in fines.
